HEARTS FOR MILITARY HEROES VETERAN SERVICES

Provides assistance and referrals to Veterans in Bay County, Fla

Board Member Colleen Greene with Veteran Student of Gulf Coast State College, Panama City, Fla

After serving 14 months in Iraq, Ricky suffered TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury causing short term memory and also has shrapnal remains in his hands and fingers. Ricky has difficulty writing with a pen or pencil or pressing a computer key board because of the pain it caused in his fingers and hands.  The TBI made it difficult for him to recall all the professor spoke about in class.  After being contacted by the Gulf Coast State College Student Services VA Representative, and having a discussion with a Student Services disabilities representative, we met with Ricky to shop for the IPad, keyboard, and stylus that has since made classroom experiences easier and better for him.

Note from Ricky: "Mrs. Tainsh, I cried on the inside after your organization provided me with the IPad. Thank you for being there for a veteran.  I am now writing papers with ease and more quickly in class and have been able to create a power point presentation.  It feels like life for me is finally turning around by knowing that there are those out there who are willing to help.  Thank you, Ricky M."
